Lisam ExESS alternatives for SDS authoring
Lisam ExESS is among the longest-standing SDS authoring systems available. Founded in 1999, Lisam reports serving over 2,000 customers. For many chemical companies, it is the default choice.
Teams usually start looking at alternatives for one of three reasons:
- Fit. Some teams want a lighter tool for a US-focused product line rather than a comprehensive global suite built on EU rules.
- Cost visibility. Lisam does not publish pricing, and teams often want a number before scheduling calls.
- Workflow. Teams may need cloud-based authoring that connects to the chemical management or ERP system they already run.
This page compares ExESS with leading alternatives, using each vendor’s public information as of October 29, 2026. We develop one of the tools listed, and we say where Lisam may be the better option. Our founder spent 12 years at Lisam; everything about Lisam here comes from its public website and brochure.
